Nepo vs Lapo in Lagos Life Explained

What nepo and lapo mean in the Lagos Life community: the class meme, the housing and neighbourhoods behind it, and why it is mostly a joke.

"Nepo" and "lapo" are the community's joke about class in the game. They are not official game terms, so this guide describes how players use them.

Nepo

Short for nepo baby. Players use it for someone who looks like they started at the top: a mansion (housing goes up to ₦1.5m a week), a Banana Island address (a food spot there costs ₦450,000 in setup), a nice car.

Lapo

The cheerful opposite. A lapo player starts small, perhaps in a self-contain, working an open job and opening a food spot in Ikorodu (setup ₦90,000) rather than Banana Island.

Why it is fun, not mean

Because anyone can move between the two. There are no skill gates on 25 careers, a company can start from ₦90,000, and the Forbes list shows players of every type.

The respectful way to use it

  • Use it for yourself or with friends who are in on the joke.
  • Do not use it to mock other players.
  • Remember that not everyone has the time or money to play the same way.
